The City of Los Angeles and County of Los Angeles have adopted Resolutions proclaiming March 30th as the Official Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day Los Angeles.

The first Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day Los Angeles Event was held in March 31, 2012. This year the event will be held on March 29th, 2014.

The Event will take place at Veterans Park 13000 Sayre St. Sylmar, CA 91342. The event will be from 12 noon to 5:00PM. The event is free to the Public. It will include a Music Festival with Bands performing music from the years 1963 to 1975.

We will be honoring the men and women who served in Vietnam and their Families.

The USO will be attending and participating in the event. We will be honoring them for their contributions in taking entertainers to Vietnam to support the Troops. We have invited well known entertainers who went with Bob Hope and Johnny Grant on tours to Vietnam.

Heroes of Life Inc. is producing the event. They are a 501c3 non- profit and all contributions are Tax Deductible. They are located in Pacoima, California and provide training and education to young people teaching them the various aspects of production of music and film.

If your Business would like to participate as a Sponsor, we would be happy to have you be one of our partners.

Sponsors will receive various levels of recognition based on Sponsorship levels. Please see the attached document for Sponsorship Levels and benefits.

Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans

Day LA

Yesterday was our first Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day LA Picnic.

The day went very well and could not have been possible with the help and generous support of various individuals.

The Los Angeles Daily News sent Troy Anderson to cover the event and he spent hours interviewing Vietnam Veterans and others who were not. He provided a good perspective. Hans Gutknecht a Staff Photographer for the Daily News spent much time not only taking photos but getting to know some of the Vietnam Veterans.

Thank You both. Here is their story:  http://www.dailynews.com/news/ci_12026514

Thank You to Mr. Frank Sheftel the owner of the Candy Factory and the TLC, the Toluca Lake Collective for his generous act in having the signs printed and covering the cost. Without his help this would not have been possible.

Thank You  Bernard Peyton and Neilja Harewood of the California Center for Economic Initiatives in Compton, California for providing the chicken for the event.

Thank You to Jeffers Dodge, Pia and Tom from PopModal.com for conducting the interviews and soon to be posting them on the Web.

Thank you to Michael Higby (Mayor Sam Blog) for providing the goodies from KFC and honorable mention on your Blog.

Others on the Thank you list are Henry Valdez and Family from Arleta, Don and Prudy Shultz from Van Nuys, Mary Garcia from North Hollywood,

Jack Marino and his friend who provided the Pizzas and let us know more about his movie “Forgotten Heroes”. We look forward to working together.

Thank you to the Vietnam Veterans who attended.

As we move forward we will be announcing formation of Committees to prepare for a larger event next year.

From all of us at Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day LA, Thank You and Welcome Home!

Day Los Angeles

 Year One

March 30, 2009

On April 8, 2008 the Los Angeles City Council adopted a Resolution Declaring March 30 as the official Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day in Los Angeles, (council file # 08-0757).

March 29th 10:00 AM – 4:00PM

North Hollywood Park

5211 Tujunga Ave. North Hollywood, CA 91601

Magnolia Blvd, east of 170 Freeway on

South side of North Hollywood Library

In observation of the event, members of your community will be having a Picnic to give Vietnam Veterans and their families and opportunity to come and share their stories. This will be the first event since the City has adopted the resolution and we look forward to seeing it grow each year.

This is not a City Sponsored event and is just and opportunity for Los Angeles residents to gather and welcome home those who served in Vietnam.

The Picnic will is a “pot luck” and attendees are being requested to bring their favorite dish and or meal.  While we are requesting attendees to bring food, it will not be a requirement to attend.

If you would like to volunteer to help at the event contact David Hernandez 818 448 3403 or drhassoc@earthlink.net.

So bring your family, chairs, blankets, tables, ice chests, food and goodies and lets have a Picnic to Welcome Home our Vietnam Veterans. After all it is never too late to do the right thing.

If you can not attend but would like to donate food or drinks, let us know.
